Addressing strategic public innovation, human-centric implementation of smart city tools, and public-private sector connectivity.
Smart Cities Convention is a two day event bringing together the urban changemakers from all over the world. On the 14th of November the agenda will include necessary discussions about urban challenges and trends. On the 15th of November city delegates will be able to participate in study visits to Tallinn’s most innovative smart city developments.
The main focus of Tallinn Smart Cities Convention is to tackle the issue of public strategic innovation, implementing smart city tools in a human-centric way and how to connect the public and the private sector. The latter focuses on the main topic of Tallinn Nexpo 2023 – mobility. Different keynote speeches and panels will focus on topics such as agile governance, mobility solutions, cities for humans, safety and resilience.
The convention also offers an opportunity to learn about the current state of innovative city projects and what the future holds for cities around the world. The objective of this event is to boost out-of-the-box thinking, networking and peer-to-peer knowledge.
There are main tracks that the convention follows, which are: human-centric appreach, innovation in governance and connecting sectors to boost innovation.
The conference will bring together cities from the Baltic Sea Region to share best practices and discuss challenges for a city in transitioning to green governance.
Green Governance is one of the focus areas of the City of Tallinn as the European Green Capital 2023. The conference will bring together cities from the Baltic Sea Region (and beyond) to share best practices and discuss challenges for a city in transitioning to green governance.
The central theme will be green public procurement as an excellent instrument to foster sustainable consumption and production. Local governments do have a great potential to achieve a large part of sustainability goals through their procurement processes – if they make them not only climate-neutral but also circular and tox-free. Furthermore, the conference will create an opportunity for networking among Green Cities.
The conference is organised by the City of Tallinn, Stockholm Environment Institute Tallinn Centre and Baltic Environmental Forum Estonia.
Greentech Week concludes with Estonia’s first balanced economy conference “Elephant in the room”, encouraging Estonian decision-makers to find an environmentally friendly economic model.
The current economic model is oriented towards unlimited growth, the main measure of which is the volume of production (GDP/GDP), which is not sustainable. Planet Earth is a closed system, resources cannot be mined and grown here endlessly.
Instead, we need a new, balanced economic model that does not harm the environment, but improves it.
The purpose of the balanced economy conference “Elephant in the Room” is to present examples of future economic models from other parts of the world and to encourage Estonian decision-makers to conceptualize and implement new models.
In the first part of the conference, we will present the best examples of new economic models from around the world – from New Zealand, Costa Rica, and Scandinavia. In the second part, we will discuss together whether and how the Estonian state and companies can apply these examples.
We welcome entrepreneurs, top and change managers, and public sector decision-makers to the conference; as well as journalists and communications managers. The conference will be held as part of Tallinn Greentech Week, in cooperation with Green Tiger, Swedbank and Äripäev on November 17 at Tallinn Creative Hub.
In 2023, Tallinn will hold the title – European Green Capital. In light of receiving the award, this is the perfect time to think about how we can turn Tallinn into a more environmentally friendly and people friendly city. In 2023, the city plans to speed up the process of becoming more sustainable and inclusive, cooperate more with citizens, companies and organisations, design a new urban space and raise residents’ awareness about nature and the environment.
